Obituary

Larry James Hankins 78, a resident of Richmond, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron. Larry was born on September 29, 1944, in Harrison, AR, the son of Clovis and Mary (Adams) Hankins. On April 5, 1969, he married Helen Elaine Davis of Elkins, WV, she preceded him in death.

Survivors include: three sons, Chad (Laurie) Hankins of Carrolton, Derek (Amy) Hankins of Camden, and James Hankins of Richmond; daughter, Amanda (Matthew) Ohrt of Richmond; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; two sisters, Connie Robinette of Kearney and Carrol Lewellen of Excelsior Springs; and one half-sister, Carla Strickland of Hot Springs, AR.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, Gary Hankins and Timothy Hankins, and sister, Cheryl Shimmel.

Larry was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He loved to fish, classical music, and doing crossword puzzles. Above all else, he loved his family. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Veterans Commission (Marine Corp Branch) in Larry's honor. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home 507 East Main Street – P.O. Box 190 Richmond, MO 64085.
