LAVON HICKS GILLASPIE

Lavon Hicks Gillaspie, 82, of Richmond, MO died on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, of a lengthy illness, after a short stay at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center under hospice care..
Lavon was born on November 3, 1929 in Orrick, MO to Allen and Anna Pearl Hicks. She married James Charles "J. C." Gillaspie of Richmond on November 12, 1948; he preceded her in death on July 3, 1998.
Survivors include one son and daughter in-law, Marty Allen and Pam Gillaspie of Lee's Summit, MO; one daughter, Mendy Rae Decker of Zionsville, IN; 3 grandchildren and their spouses, Damien and Elissa Decker, of Zionsville, IN Jordan Decker of Chicago, IL, Jamie and Dan Rowan; and one great-grandson, Noah Rowan, all of Richmond, MO.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lavon was preceded in death by 3 brothers, William Hicks, Vernon Hicks and Victor Hicks; and one sister, Vivian Leas.
Lavon was an ophthalmic assistant where she had worked for Dr. Booker and Dr. Price in Richmond for over 25 years. She was a member of the Richmond First Baptist Church. She was a lifelong Richmond resident.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Wayside Waifs or to the North Care Hospice House.

At Lavon's request, there will be no funeral or visitation. Private graveside services will be held on Friday, November 25, 2011 at the Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements by: Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
