LLOYD LEE CATES
Lloyd Lee Cates, 89, of Rayville, MO died Monday, August 6, 2012 at the Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond, MO.
Lloyd was born on November 29, 1922 in Clinton County near Grayson, MO to Joseph C. and Lula Rachel (Boydston) Cates. He married Jane Richardson "King" of Rayville on September 16, 1988; she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include four sons and four daughters-in-law, James and Brenda Cates of Lawson, MO, David and Denise Cates of Lisle, IL, Joe and Deborah Cates of Excelsior Springs, MO and Jeff and Rosetta Cates of Richmond; two daughters and one son-in-law, Brenda and Wes Crawford of Richmond and Ann Crumley of Excelsior Springs; three brothers, Dan Cates of Gladstone, MO, Gene Cates of Smithville, MO and Carl Cates of Missouri City; one sister, Ruby Lana of Excelsior Springs; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and several sisters-in-law also survive.
In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Cates and Kenneth Cates; and two sisters, Josephine Cates and Icel (Skaggs) Isenhour.
Lloyd was a decorated Army Veteran of WWII where he received a Purple Heart. Lloyd first worked as a Nurses Aid at the Veterans Hospital in Excelsior Springs then the Wadsworth Veterans Hospital in Leavenworth, KS for 33 years before he retired. Lloyd had also worked part time for the Sam Wollard Auto Dealership in Excelsior Springs. He was a member of the Rayville Christian Union Church.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Rayville Christian Union Church.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Rayville Christian Union Church. Visitation will be Thursday, August 9, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Old Union Cemetery near Lawson where military honors will be provided by the Ray County Veterans.
