LONNIE RAY AKERS
Lonnie R. Akers, 72, of Richmond, MO died Sunday, December 24, 2017 at the Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
Lonnie was born on October 25, 1945 in Miami, OK to Byrl and Dora (Rhine) Akers. He married Toni Kay Haskins of Richmond on March 30, 1968. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include; one son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Sue Akers of Kansas City, MO; two daughters, Shelly Milligan of Richmond and Christy Cline of Kansas City; one sister and brother-in-law, Corena and Al Smith of Clinton, MO; 5 grandchildren, Paige Cline, Reece Milligan, Lucas Cline, Anthony Schartz and his wife, Ashleigh and Katie Schartz; and one great-granddaughter, Aleah Cline.
In addition to his parents, Lonnie was preceded in death by two brothers, Dwayne Akers and Gary Akers; and two sisters, Reva Cummings and LaVerna Mack.
Lonnie retired from Ford Motor Company in 1995 after 30 years of service. After retirement he was active in the farming community. He was an avid fisherman, trap shooter, gardener, where he loved sharing his produce. When he wasn't gardening, Lonnie spent countless volunteer hours implementing new programs for the Ray County Sheriff's Department. He served on the board of the Law Enforcement Restitution Fund. He was also on the board for Cravens Cemetery. Lonnie was a member of the U.A.W. local #249, where he was on the recreation committee where he started the fishing tournaments for the union. Lonnie was reliable, loved a challenge, was very active, colorful, sociable, generous and selfless man that loved his family. He was of the Christian faith. Lonnie lived in Richmond most of his life.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Crossroads Hospice.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Craven Cemetery near Camden, MO.
