Loren Brown Turnage, 88, of Higginsville, formerly of Richmond, died Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at the Meyer Care Center in Higginsville.
Loren was born on February 4, 1930, in Rayville, to Irvin Monroe and Edna Marguerite (Brown) Turnage. He was united in marriage to Gladys "Judy" Fern Williams of Knoxville, on April 12, 1952. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include: four sons: Dennis (Lora) Turnage of Lexington, Louis (Susan) Turnage of Peyton, CO, Victor (Joyce) Turnage of Bentonville, AR, and Gregory Turnage of Boise, ID; one daughter: Dawn (Donald) Simpson, of Higginsville; two sisters: Mary Louise Tanner of Richmond and Charlotte Johnson of Richmond; 10 grandchildren: Justin Turnage; Trent (Christi) Turnage, Louis Turnage II, Christina Ayala (Vince Howard), David Turnage, Chantel (Mark) Beall, Matthew (Stephanie) Turnage, Denise (Steven) Livingston, Nathan Turnage, and Letha (Travis) Sadler; and 16 great-grandchildren: Jeremy Turnage, Emma Turnage, Elli Turnage, Jesse Turnage, Juan Ayala, Marco Ayala, Jasmine Howard, Ella Turnage, Caelan Beall, Caedmon Beall, Caegan Beall, Carter Turnage, Alexis Turnage, Abigail Livingston, Corbin Sadler, Emmalynn Sadler, and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Loren was reared and educated in the area of his birth and graduated from Richmond High School in 1947. After high school, he proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning from military service, he worked for several construction companies in the area, such as J.A. Lester Construction and Hobert Hannsz Construction. Loren was a jack of all trades, an excellent carpenter, and a licensed electrician. He was also maintenance supervisor for the HUD Housing in Richmond for many years. Being a handyman, he was always helping someone, no matter what, friend or family. His biggest love was his family; he especially loved his wife, kids, and grandkids. He was always willing to do whatever mom wanted.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Crowley Cemetery or the Meyer Care Center Employee Christmas Fund or Preferred Hospice of Lexington. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street - P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 14, 2019, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial, with full military honors, will take place at 2:00 P.M. on Monday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.
