LOUIS L. KENDRICK
Louis L. Kendrick, 81, of Excelsior Springs, MO, died at 7:34 p.m., on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Valley Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Excelsior Springs, MO.
Louis was born on December 23, 1931 in Lexington, MO to John Lawrence "Jack" and Enner Ethel (Mansell) Kendrick. He married Norma Dean Sperbeck of Richmond, MO on January 31, 1953. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include; one son and daughter-in-law, Louis D. and Robyn Kendrick of Cypress, TX, two daughters and two sons-in-law, Debra L. and Tim Abbott of Richmond, MO, Peggy Ann and David McGaugh of Carrollton, MO, one brother and his wife, John P. "Pat" and Margie Kendrick of Blue Springs, MO, one sister, Janie Lyon of Sarasota, FL, six grandchildren and their spouses, Jessica Mae Covey, Alan Mullikin and Jennifer Sample, Joe Don and Kassie McGaugh, Jocelyn McGaugh, Jacob and Lauren Kendrick and Cameron Kendrick. Nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson also survive.
In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Bryant "Bill" Kendrick, six sisters, Nina Kendrick, Ethel Mae Duvall, Irene Lonberger, Reta Preston, Leona and Margie Kendrick, who both died in infancy.
Louis was a Baptist. He was a 1950 graduate of Lexington High School. He attended U S Trade School in Kansas City and worked as a diesel mechanic for Pacific International Express "P. I. E" for several years. He was a heavy equipment operator for nineteen years, before retiring in 1990. He was an operator for Continental Steel in Kansas City. He was a supervisor in the Public Works Department for the city of Excelsior Springs, MO during the 1980's. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, local #101. He was a member of Clay Lodge #207 A.F. & A.M. in Excelsior Springs. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge #3917 in Excelsior Springs.. Louis was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a fifty-two year member and Past Commander of American Legion Post #236 in Excelsior Springs. He was a forty-eight year member and Past Chef de Gar of 40/8 Voiture Locale #1379.
Louis was an avid woodcarver, fisherman and hunter. He was always known to carry a pocket knife and could whittle a "morel" mushroom out of the most common driftwood, cast off lumber, etc. Louis attended over twenty annual mushroom festivals in Richmond, MO, selling his wares. One of the most popular and one-of-a-kind items being hand carved walking canes and sticks, with personalization carved in the handles. He had lived in Excelsior Springs, MO most of his life.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Valley Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Excelsior Springs, MO.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home, where a masonic service will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery with military graveside services provided by the Ray County Veterans.
