This past Sunday, November 4, 2018, Lucinda James, 88, of Kansas City, MO, was called home to eternal rest by her Savior at her daughter's home in Kansas City.
Lucinda Early was born on October 23, 1930 in San Carlos, AZ the daughter of Joseph and Cora (Steele) Early.
Survivors include: one son, Johanson James(Lori) and one daughter, Joyce James, both of Kansas City; three grandchildren, Hollie James, Jonathan James and Joyce Mollica (Michael); two great-grandchildren, Demesia James and Eva Mollica; and two step children Joni and Iris James.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Jeremiah James and Jonathan James, two brothers, Leander Early and Allen Early; one sister, Nancy Fall and one step- son, Daryl James.
Lucinda was baptized into the body of Christ c. 1940 and confirmed by Rev. Francis J. Uplegger (the first resident missionary with the Apache) at Grace Lutheran of San Carlos Reservation. She and her children eventually moved to Kansas City and joined Mount Olive Lutheran Church where she met and became lifelong friends of the List family. She and her daughter Joyce later joined Concordia Lutheran Church (LCR) of Henrietta MO. Lucinda attended regularly and enjoyed many church services there with her close friend, Clara List. After Clara was called to her home in heaven, Lucinda continued to be a great woman of faith in the church. She looked forward to hearing the Word each Sunday and loved singing hymns and attending Bible Class.
Lucinda spent most of her life with her family in Kansas City and nearby Liberty, MO. When she first moved here with her children in 1971, the small family would frequent Kansas City Royals games, wrestling events and concerts. Relatives from back home would often come to visit.
Lucinda worked at several restaurants and worked for some time at Children's Mercy Hospital. After retirement she lived in Phoenix and Tucson before returning to Kansas City. She was able to return to San Carlos often and always stayed in touch with her family and friends there.
Lucinda enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. She loved cooking and made "perfect" tortillas and frybread. She watched news and sports and especially enjoyed dining with her family and going to movies.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Joyce James Memorial Fund or Concordia Lutheran Church of Henrietta. They can be dropped off or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street - P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. There will be a visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Thursday.
