Obituary

Mark Thomas Burke, 75, of Richmond, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond.

Mark was born on May 12, 1947, in Ogden, UT, the son of Patrick McKenzie and Audrey Delph.  He was united in marriage to Mary Elaine Riddell-Hickman of Richmond on September 29, 2000; she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: two sons, Marcus (Rikki) Burke of Independence, MO, and Kevin (Tammy) Burke of Fort Hood, TX; two daughters, Marisa Burke of San Diego, CA, and Katie (Kyle) Burke Proffitt of Overland Park, KS; five grandchildren: Sean (Megan) Burke, Griffin Burke, Tristan Burke, Aianna Johnson, and Nolen Proffitt; two great-grandchildren, Hadleigh Burke and Kamdin Burke; stepson, Scott Brown of Orrick; brother, Gary (Margie) Griffin of Bull Shoals, AR; and sister, Francie Blackford of Lenexa, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Markie Burke, and sister, Callie Higby.

Mark spent his early years in Nebraska before moving to Branson, MO.  He graduated from the School of the Ozarks in 1965, before joining the United States Army, 1 st Armored Division, from 1966 to 1969.  Mark attended college at the University of Arkansas, where he earned his Bachelor of Science and master's in education.  Later, he attended Lindenwood University, where he earned his master's in administration.  Mark spent his early career as Director of Entertainment and Attractions at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO.  He was a high school business teacher for 15 years in the Richmond, West Plains, Raytown South, and Wentworth Military Academy School Districts.  Mark performed in the Community Arts at the Farris Theatre in Richmond, MO.  He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Richmond, MO.  Mark loved playing golf, singing, and coaching high school golf and softball.  He was also an announcer for football games in the Richmond and Raytown South School Districts.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude's Hospital for Children.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

"Life's a party and I'm the guest of honor."  Please join the family for one last party, celebrating the guest of honor, "Bubba," which will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 2:00 P. M. until 6:00 P.
