MELBA JEAN GARNER
Melba Jean Garner (79) of Richmond died July 8, 2011. She was born March 12, 1932 to Herbert McDonald and Cassie Beatrice Lewis McDonald both preceding her in death. Melba was preceded in death by two brothers, Troy and James McDonald; three sisters Lois Hudson, Eunice Tillery and Emma Irene Ware; and her grandson Ryan Sandberg. She is survived by her sisters Geneva Louise Hodge of Moore Oklahoma and Artie Anderson of Atlanta Georgia. Melba is survived by 6 grandchildren, Frank Garner III of Leawood Kansas, Debra Poll of Liberty, Phillip Garner of Richmond, Jonathan Garner of Independence, Leisa Lamar of Henrietta and Raymond Garner of Kansas City, Missouri. She is survived by 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Melba was formerly married to Frank Garner, Jr. Melba completed two years of pre-med at CSMU and worked as a substitute teacher in Richmond. She worked eleven years for the IRS as a Tax Examiner and retired in 1997. She spent her time in retirement, working part time at Wal-Mart, doing everybody's taxes for free and reading a book per day. She read so many books; it was hard to buy her one she hadn't read.
