Melvin James Harmon, 84, of Camden, passed away Monday, June 10, 2024, at North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City.
Melvin was born on February 14, 1940, in North Kansas City, the son of Willis R. and Wilma Clastine (Malott) Harmon. He was united in marriage to Donna L. King of Homer, NE, in February of 1972; she preceded him in death on September 3, 2012. He was then united in marriage to Shirley Dean Gardner of Henrietta on September 26, 2014; she preceded him in death on November 27, 2023.
Survivors include: five daughters: Tammy (Jeff) Parker of Plattsmouth, NE, Tracy Marin of Kansas City, Terrie Langford of Claycomo, Jamie Jones of Kansas City, and Jennie O'Donnell of North Kansas City; two step-daughters, Patty (John) Conrick of Excelsior Springs and Dena (Ron) Bradley of Liberty; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Wynema Harmon of Richmond.
In addition to his parents and wives, Melvin was preceded in death by his grandson, Zachary Gertson, brother, Thomas Marlon "Tom" Harmon, and his sister, Marsha McKay.
Melvin was raised and educated in the area of his birth and graduated from Liberty High School. He worked for over 30 years as a mechanic for T.W.A. Melvin's hobbies included hunting, fishing, and camping. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Melvin Harmon Memorial Fund. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 17, 2024, in White Chapel Cemetery, 6600 North Antioch Road, Gladstone, MO.
