Millard C. Yoakum, Jr. 86, of Richmond, Mo, died Tuesday March 3, 2015 at the Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo.
Millard was born on December 29, 1928 in Ray County Mo to Millard Clead and Jenny Bell (Whitmer) Yoakum Sr. He married Shirley Alice Moran of Baltimore, MD on August 11, 1955. She preceded him in death on November 28, 2003.
Survivors include; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Diann Yoakum of Omaha, NE; three daughters and three sons-in-law, Kathleen and David Dugger of Richmond, Mo, Jennifer and David Jones of Sugar Creek, Mo and Stephanie and Harry Sappington of Independence, Mo; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Millard is also survived by a special friend, Yvonne Van Brakel of Colorado Springs, CO.
In addition to his parents and wife, Millard was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Earl Yoakum, Whitmer Yoakum; and two sisters, Mildred Pike and Lula Margaret Cahow.
Millard was owner and operator of Yoakum Appliance and Repair in Richmond for over 20 years. He was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korea and Viet Nam Wars. He was a member of the American Legion Post #237 and the VFW Post #4398. He was an active member of the Ray County Veterans Honor Guard. He was a member of the Richmond Christian Union Church. Millard was a member of God's Squad and rang bells for the Ray County Salvation Army for several years. He had lived most of his life in the Ray County area.
The family suggests memorial Contributions be made to the Richmond Christian Union Church.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by the Ray County Veterans.
