RICHARD DAVID SMITH

Richard David Smith, 46, of Independence, died Monday, April 26, 2021, at his home.

Richard was born on February 20, 1975, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the son of Hugh David and Marsha Jean (Carlson) Smith.

Additional Survivors include: fiancée, Kristin Wiebold of Alaska; brother, Nathan Allan (Tiffany) Smith of Independence; sister, Mary Ellen Fields of Independence; nephew, Aiden Fields; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard grew up on a farm about 10 miles north of Richmond; he attended Richmond Schools until the seventh grade and then he was homeschooled. After graduating high school he attended both Wentworth and William Jewell.  Richard attended the South Crysler Restoration Branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a deacon in the church. Richard was a talented musician and a prolific writer.
