ROBERT E. DANIEL

Robert E. Daniel, 85, of Richmond, MO died at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, January 02, 2012 at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Robert was born on August 1, 1926 in Elmira, MO to Earl and Edna (Rhodus) Daniel. He married Betty B. Bryant of Ray County, MO on January 18, 1948; she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include three sons and daughter's in-law, David and Judy Daniel of Blytheville, AR, Dale and Katy Daniel of Vine Grove, KY and Darrin and Cherie Daniel of Warner Robins, GA; one sister, Anita Boning Powers of Brighton, CO; and three grandchildren, Lauren Daniel, Bradley Daniel and Tyler Daniel.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his step-mother, Martha Daniel.
Robert graduated from Richmond High School in 1944. After graduation he served in the Army Air Corp during WWII as an aircraft mechanic on B-24s and B-25s on the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. He separated from the Air Corp in 1946 and returned to Richmond, where he married Betty Bryant. Bob served in the Missouri Army National Guard, 923rd Ambulance Co., organized under Gordon Cupps. He activated in 1950 to Fort Jackson, SC and received orders for Japan during the Korean War. After deactivation in August 1952 he again returned home to Richmond.
Bob owned the Daniel Mobil Gas Station on W. Main Street from 1957-1965. He started with the US Post Office in 1965 as a letter carrier, than became Supervisor of Postal Operations before retiring as Postmaster in 1986. He was also a volunteer for the Richmond Fire Department for more than 30 years, holding the position of Assistant Fire Chief for over 10 years.
Scouting was a big part of his life. Starting at the age of 12, Bob advanced to Eagle Scout and later became a Sachem in the Tribe of Mic O'Say as well as scoutmaster for Troop 324. He was awarded the Order of Merit and the Silver Beaver award in the KC Area Council. Bob had lived in Richmond most of his life. He was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Richmond United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Richmond United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Richmond United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in the Richmond Cemetery at a later date. Flag presentation will be provided by the Ray County Veterans.
