Robert Lee McCorkendale, 91, of Mission, TX, formerly of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at DHR Health Hospice in Edinburg, TX.
Robert was born on December 22, 1932, in Odessa, the son of Arvel P. and Eva M. (Kennedy) McCorkendale. He was united in marriage to Shirley M. Lynn of Henrietta on December 21, 1952; she preceded him in death on June 25, 2015.
Survivors include: daughter-in-law, Linda Elford of Mission, TX; her three children and their eight grandchildren; brother, Gary (Denise) McCorkendale of Richmond; several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by his son, David L. McCorkendale, two brothers, Charles McCorkendale and Clarence McCorkendale, and sister, Darlene Blood.
Robert was raised in Camden, Missouri, and graduated from Camden High School in the Class of 1951. After graduation, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he built a dedicated career at Ford Motor Company, where he worked until his retirement in 1989. Throughout his time at Ford, Robert was a proud supporter and active member of the United Autoworkers Local Union #249.
Robert had a deep commitment to his community. He was a proud member of both the American Legion and VFW in Richmond, where he built lifelong friendships with fellow veterans. As a Boy Scout Master in Lexington, Robert helped shape the lives of many young men and earned recognition as a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was of the Christian faith.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Heart Association. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Visitation with funeral services will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 12:00 P.M., with services to follow at 1:00 P.M.
