Obituary

Roger G. Childress, 66, of Richmond, died Saturday, August 18, 2018 at North Kansas City Hospital.

Roger was born on October 3, 1951 in Fort Monroe, Virginia to Carl and Loise (Hershey) Childress.  He married Linda O'Dell of Richmond in 1979; they later divorced.

Survivors include his mother, Loise Hershey of Marshall, IL; one son, David Childress of Willow Hill, IL; two daughters: Beth Walker and her husband Rodney of Lexington and Sandra Hires and her husband Mike of Willow Hill, IL; 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; two sisters: Carleen Hammond of Casey, IL and Kay Hill and her husband Jim of Marshall, IL;

He was preceded in death by his father Carl Childress, two brothers: Harvey Childress and Robert Dean Childress and one sister in infancy, Maxine Caroline.

He worked throughout the country in construction for many years building nuclear power plants.  He also worked for Rural Water District #2 in Ray County and Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He loved his family, animals, eagles, Nasacar and people of all walks of life.  Roger served his country in the United States Army while in Germany.  He enjoyed creating a display in his yard in honor of all military, and first responders and then went onto extend it with a little of everything from Jesus, angels, animals etc. to display a little of something for everyone in the community to enjoy. He loved people.  He would give his last bit of money he had to help a loved one in need.  He loved the outdoors.  His hobbies included arrowhead hunting, yardwork and fishing.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Roger Childress memorial fund.  They can be dropped off or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 E Main Street, P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.  Inurnment will be at a later date in South Point Cemetery near Orrick.
