ROSEMARY MARQUIS SHANKS
Rosemary Marquis Shanks, 89, of Richmond, MO died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Pleasant Valley, MO.
Rosemary was born on May 11, 1924 in Mishawaka, IN to George T. and Leona (Cherry) Mandes. She was first married to Claude O. Marquis in 1940; he preceded her in death. She then married Glenn Shanks in 1998; he also preceded her in death.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Preston and Theresa Marquis of Pleasant Valley, MO, Randy and Kathy Marquis of Wolfforth, TX, Keith and Barbi Marquis of Independence, MO and Kevin and Lorrie Marquis of Pittman, NJ; one daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and William Luntsford of Richmond, MO; two sisters and brother-in-law, Alice Hall of Omaha, NE and Teddy and Richard Clevenger of Phoenix, AZ; 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Rosemary was preceded in death by one brother, George Mandes; and one granddaughter, Michele Dahn.
Rosemary was a housewife/homemaker. Rosemary also worked outside the home at a battery factory in Leavenworth, KS, at Sunflower Ordnance Plant in Desoto, KS as a lab technician, at Russell Stover Candy Corporation in Kansas City, MO as a secretary/bookkeeper, and in food service for Schlagle High School, Kansas City, KS. Her memberships included the Caldwell County Nutrition Center, the Knoxville Community Church, the Bethel Memorial V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #5851, Kansas City, KS. Rosemary grew up in Leavenworth, KS. During her adult life she lived in Kansas City, KS, as well as Cowgill and Polo, MO areas before moving to Richmond eight years ago. Rosemary was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all that knew her. Rosemary's life story would not be complete without mentioning her 5 faithful animal companions Regis, Darlene, Bella, Baby and Big Boy; they were always by her side to give comfort during difficult times and especially during her illness at the end.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either Crossroads Hospice or the Knoxville Community Church.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, MO. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, MO. Inurnment will be at a later date.
