ROY JOHN RICHARDSON
Roy John Richardson, 65, of Richmond, MO died Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Ray County Memorial Hospital, Richmond, MO.
John was born on July 1, 1950 in Quincy, IL to Roy and Anna (Clark) Richardson. He married Opal M. Hinkle of Lewistown on January 24, 1971. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Jonelle and Eric Hall of Oak Grove, MO and Kristin and Scott Duncan of Excelsior Springs, MO; one brother, David Richardson of Quincy, IL; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Teresa and Tim Haire of Liberty, IL and Mary and Terry Fretwell of Canton, MO; 3 grandchildren, Evan and Jordan Hall and Tucker Duncan. An aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Dance of Lewistown, MO, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
John was a retired school teacher. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in 1972. His first teaching job was at Job Corps in Excelsior Springs, MO from 1972 to 1974. John then began what would be his 31 year teaching and coaching career in the Richmond School District. John coached Track in the Richmond School District for 29 years. He also coached girls and boys basketball for several years. He was chairman of the business department and was also head of the Technology Department. He continued to work part time for the Richmond School District until 2013.
John was past-president of the Richmond Kiwanis Club. He was a member of MRTA and was past-president of Ray County MRTA. He was a Board member of Friends of the Farris. He drove for Direct Transit. He was the computer tech at Ray County Library. John enjoyed gardening, cooking and riding his trike. He provided computer service to the "computer challenged" of Richmond. John was selected to the Richmond Wall of Honor in 2015. He was very supportive and loved going to all of his grandsons' activities. John lived in Lewistown, Mo and Columbia, Mo, before moving to Richmond in 1974.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the John Richardson Memorial Scholarship Fund or to the Richmond United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Richmond United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Richmond United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery.
