With deep love, we announce the passing of Roy Charles Vance, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who passed away August 14, 2026. Roy was born on October 26, 1930, in Granite City, IL.
He taught his family the value of perseverance and showed love through hard work, dedication and providing for his family. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, sense of humor and the way her loved to travel and would never say good-bye but would say 'so long.'
Roy was in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955 and was proud to serve during the Korean War. He was deployed on the USS Hamner, serving as a Gunner's Mate and a Military Police Officer. He spent most of his tour stationed in Yokosuka Japan.
After his military service, he spent most of his professional life working as a grease maker for Jesco Lubricants for over 30 years. In retirement, he and Frances flipped houses and were 'snowbirds' wintering in Arizona for over 20 years.
He is survived by his first wife, Ruth (Magruder) Lile, and current wife, Lula 'Frances' Vance; daughters: Tania Lee (Karl) of Basehor, KS, Nina Moore (Gary) of Gladstone, MO, and Nancy Chapple (Greg) of Stockton, MO; grandchildren: Ashley Lusby, Bryan Chapple, and Julia Bagby (Ryan); great-granddaughter, Hadleigh Bagby; beloved bonus daughter and son, Suzanne (Blankenship) Dean and Jimmy Dean of Chandler, AZ; grandson, Ed Dean; great-grandson, Tristan Dean; James D. Blankenship, M.D. (stepson), Chris A. Blankenship (stepdaughter-in-law), their two children and six grandchildren.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Titania (Ruebel) Vance, and sister, Mildred 'Millie' Burgdorf.
His family will carry his memory forward through the lessons, stories, and love he gave so generously. Roy will be remembered for his quick wit, kindness and playful nature. He leaves behind many cherished memories and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Visitation with funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 9:30 A.M., with services to follow at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens. Military honors provided by the United States Navy. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Wexford Place, 6460 N Cosby Ave, Kansas City, MO 64151, beginning at 2:00 P.M.
Casual attire is acceptable to wear for services.
