SAMUEL F. "SAM" KOONTZ, JR.

Samuel F. "Sam" Koontz, Jr., 88, of Kansas City, MO died Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Cherry Hills Nursing Home in Kansas City, MO.
Sam was born on February 13, 1925 in Kansas City, MO to Samuel Franklin and Florence Katherine (Key) Koontz, Sr. He married Alice E. Fitzwater of Norborne, MO on June 2, 1951; she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Lora Koontz of Kansas City, MO; two daughters, Kathy A. Koontz of the home and Janice E. Livingston of the home; 6 grandchildren and their spouses, Nathan and Julie Livingston, Alicia and Adam Innocenti, Jason and Lisa Koontz, Jesse and Tracey Koontz, Dylan and Misty Koontz and Tiffany Koontz; 7 great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Vickie Kay Koontz of Wadsworth, OH.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by one son, Douglas A. Koontz.
Sam was a United States Army Veteran of WWII. He was a 50+ year member of the Buckner Mason Lodge #501 A.F. and A.M. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #41. He was an over the road truck driver for Yellow Freight for 30 years before he retired. He was of the Christian faith. Sam had lived in the Kansas City most of his life.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be Monday, August 19, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne, MO. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne, MO. Burial will be in the Fairhaven Cemetery in Norborne, MO where military honors will be provided by the Pence Lovell England-American Legion Post in Carrollton, MO.
