Shirley Ann (Fairchild) Smith, 79, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.

Shirley was born on November 3, 1946, in Lexington, the daughter of Bernie Newton and Clara Carolina (Jaspering) Fairchild.  She was united in marriage to Jimmy "Jim" June Smith on June 27, 1969; he preceded her in death on July 19, 2021.

Survivors include: stepson, Randy Smith; stepdaughter, Tanya (Greg) Richards; six grandchildren: Logan Watts, Kali Watts, Lyndsey Arney, Collin (Drew) Fedolfi, Kade Belcher, and Amber Smith; five great-grandchildren: Kash Smith, Levvy Fedolfi, Abree Cloninger, Oaklee Cloninger, and Everlee Cloninger; she is also survived by several siblings, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Kerry Lee Watts.

Shirley was raised and educated in the area of her birth. She worked as a laborer at Lake City alongside her husband, Jim. Above all, Shirley treasured her family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
