Obituary

Stephen "Steve" Lynn Hamm, Sr., 59, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, unexpectedly, while driving in the Stet community.

Steve was born on July 28, 1965, in Leavenworth, KS, the son of Larry Jean and Janet Kae (McDaniel) Hamm.  He was united in marriage to Brenda Louise Williams on January 3, 1987; she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: daughter, Holly (Norman) Clevenger of Richmond; sons, Stephen (Kolyn) Hamm, Jr., and James "Jimmy" (Hannah) Hamm, both of Richmond; eight grandchildren: Madison Clevenger, McKenna Clevenger, Kayla Hamm, Emma Hamm, Stephen Greyson Hamm, Millie Hamm, Beckett Hamm and Tucker Hamm; his parents, Larry and Janet Hamm; brothers: Teddy Hamm of Richmond, Michael Hamm of Carrollton, and Scott Hamm of Braymer; sister, Jennifer Sherman of Paola, KS; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Steve was raised and educated in Richmond, Polo, and Stet communities, graduating from Stet High School in the Class of 1983.  He enjoyed representing the Stet Cardinals in softball, basketball, track, and FFA.  Following high school, he worked for Ray-Carroll Fuels (14 years), Richmond Farm and Lawn (16 years) and Ag-Power in Richmond (12 years), serving the farmers of the community.

Steve coached Little League football, basketball, baseball and videoed dance team performances for many years.  He also continued his education in farm machinery by earning his John Deere Master's Degree.

Steve was a member of the Morton Union Church and the Ray County Fair Association.

Steve and Brenda enjoyed sunsets, campfires by the pond, fishing, traveling with friends, and working on the farm.  Steve always enjoyed family get-togethers.  He treasured time spent with his grandchildren, earning the title of "Papa Steve."  They brought him tremendous joy and happiness.  He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and community.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Morton Union Church or the Ray County Fair Association.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, January 27, 2025, at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Richmond Memory Gardens.  Please remember to share your memories of Steve with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
