STEVEN JAMES FORD
Steven J Ford 52, a resident of Richmond passed away at Ray County Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. He was born on August 15, 1974, in Excelsior Springs, the son of Ronnie and Lola Wilkins Ford.
He is survived by one son, Kaleb Downer; two daughters, Anna Hein and Vivian Ford; mother, Lola Ford; sister, Debbie (Steve) Howerton; the love of his life, Ami Vaughn, her four children and one grandchild. He is also survived by one niece, three nephews, many aunts, uncles, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, and nephew, Ryan Ford.
Steven was a proud 1993 graduate of Richmond High School. He was a talented mechanic who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed assistance with their vehicle. Steven had a genuine gift for helping others and never hesitated to share his knowledge or lend a hand when someone needed it.
He enjoyed fishing, snagging, playing pool, and, of course, he had a special love for a good Ford vehicle. Steven also loved to cook, although those who knew him best might say he enjoyed eating even more! He had a big and loving heart and was always willing to help anyone who crossed his path.
Steven was a devoted son, father, brother, and friend. He was well known throughout the community, not only because of the many people he helped, but because of the genuine friendships and connections he made along the way. A simple trip to Walmart could easily turn into an event, as Steven was almost certain to run into someone he knew and take the time to visit. That was just who Steven was—he never met a stranger and always had time for the people around him.
Steven touched the lives of many through his kindness, generosity, humor, and willingness to help. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date by the family. Memorial contributions in Steven’s honor can be made to the Steven Ford memorial fund. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home 507 East Main Street/P.O. Box 190 Richmond, MO 64085. Please visit www.thurmanfuneralhome.com to leave memories of Steven for the family.
