VERNA LEE IVY

Verna Lee Ivy, 87, of Richmond, MO, died at 12:25 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 2011 at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Verna was born on June 25, 1924 in Birch Tree, MO to Martin Don Jellum, Sr and Nellie Hoover. She married WM L. Ivy of Liberty, MO on June 16, 1951; he preceded her in death on January 10, 1997.
Survivors include two nephews, Terry and his wife, Joyce Jellum of Richmond and Mike Hedden of Sacremento, CA; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews in the Springfield, MO area also survive.
In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by one brother, Martin Don Jellum, Jr. and one sister, Juanita Hedden.
Verna was a 1942 graduate of the Birch Tree (MO) High School. She was a Secretary for the SouthWestern Bell Telephone Company in the Liberty Office for 34 years before retiring in 1981. She was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Verna had also been a School Teacher. She was a member of the Liberty Christian Church. She lived in the Liberty area most of her life before moving to Richmond 10 years ago.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Shirkey Foundation in Richmond.

As were Verna's wishes she has donated her body to science. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.
