VINCE EUGENE THOMPSON
Vince E. Thompson, 60, of Mission, KS died Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He had lived within the Richmond, MO and Kansas City, MO area most of his life.
Vince was born on June 1, 1954 in Lexington, MO to Vincent Earl and Marjorie Jean (Seward) Thompson. He married Jean Ann Sims of Excelsior Springs, MO on July 27, 1973; she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include his mother, Marjorie J. (Thompson) Toloso of Richmond, MO; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jennifer and Troy Rivas of Shawnee, KS and Carissa King of Excelsior Springs, MO; one brother and sister-in-law, Rodney and Linda Thompson of Richmond, MO; one sister, Sharon Thompson of Wall, NJ; five grandchildren, Charles King, III, Andrew King, Levi King, Caterina Rivas and Nico Rivas.
In addition to his father, Vince was preceded in death by one son, Riley G. Thompson.
Vince was involved with area schools First LEGO League competitions and was very passionate about inspiring youth to achieve greatness through science and math. He started the first Make: KC group in this area and spearheaded the very first Mini Maker Faire in the Kansas City area.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Vibbard Christian Union Church in Rayville, MO. Visitation is scheduled for Friday evening, August 1, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and funeral services are Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens.
