Virginia Fern Carter, 89, of Richmond, passed away Friday, February 3, 2023, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.

Virginia was born on February 24, 1933, in Rayville, the daughter of Grover and Dora (Travillion) Phillips.  She was united in marriage to Donald Ray Carter of Kansas City in 1981; he preceded her in death in September 22, 2005.

Survivors include: daughter, Dora (Joe) Barlow of Blue Springs; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Becky (Gene) Campbell of Dogpatch, AR.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 12 siblings.

Virginia was reared and educated in the area of her birth.  Over the years, she worked as a nurse's aide, a waitress, and cleaned offices in Kansas City.  She was a housewife and homemaker, loving mother, and grandmother.  Virginia was an avid reader and enjoyed watching westerns.
