Obituary

Virginia Mae Holman (Virgie, GMa, Gramma Birdie), 90, San Antonio, Texas formerly Richmond, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 9, 2026.

Virginia was born on March 29, 1936, in Henrietta, Missouri, the daughter of Carl Maynard and Leona Mae (Lilly) Stanton. She was united in marriage to Robert William Holman of Richmond on April 24, 1965; he preceded her in death on January 4, 1995. Formerly married to Bobby G. Duncan

Survivors include: son, Robert Duncan (Janet), Richmond, MO; daughters, Carolyn Sandoval (A.J.), San Antonio, TX., and Jennifer Morse (Dan), Reno, NV.; five grandchildren; Amanda Duncan (Lester), Addie Dorton (John), Aaron Sandoval (Lindsey), Courtney John (Philip), and Luke Morse (Grace); seven great grandchildren; Audrey Sandoval, Payden Brown, Tanner Brown, Aaron Sandoval, Jr., Sophia Dorton, Hazel Dorton, and Maisie Elliott. Along with multiple nieces, nephews, and families. And…some very special fur grandpups.

In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her son, Stephen A. Duncan (Pam), seven brothers and sisters; Betty June (Stanton) Dunivan, Carl Maynard Stanton, Jr., Harris Bates Stanton, Fletah Louise (Stanton) Gooseman, Rosemary Carolyn (Stanton) Mansell, Eleanor Fern (Stanton) Register, and John Crosby Stanton.

Virginia was raised and educated in the local community of Henrietta, Missouri. She attended the local school through the 9th grade. She was raised in a generation of farmers and very hard workers. She started family life at a very young age and dedicated her life to her children. She went on to work at Luce Luggage, Lake City Armory, Ferguson Manufacturing, Price Candy, and probably her favorite job as being a local AVON lady! She loved visiting local friends and family with her warm smile and caring heart.

After retiring to San Antonio to live with her eldest daughter and family, she would often travel to visit her families in Reno, NV. and Richmond, MO. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whom she loved so dearly, watching the changes that occurred from year-to-year. She also loved her pictures. If you know Virgie, you know that pictures were a highlight of her life “especially when she was in them”.

In San Antonio, she was a dedicated member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church where she connected with multiple people that became very dear to her heart. Over the years, she volunteered at many church events always with a loving spirit.

Virginia will be deeply missed and loving remembered by all who knew her.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of all friends and family members that have suffered from the disease. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M., with services to follow at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens. Please remember to share your memories of Virginia with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
