WAUNETA McCORKENDALE

Wauneta McCorkendale, 91, of Hardin, MO died Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.

Wauneta was born on March 9, 1925 in Rockingham, MO to David and Carrie (Dove) Summers.  She married Frazier D. McCorkendale of Hardin on March 15, 1952.  He preceded her in death on April 25, 1994.

Survivors include; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Susan McCorkendale of Hardin; two daughters, Nancy Lowman and her significant other, Jim Fifer of Norborne, MO and Becky Morton of Lexington, MO; 5 grandchildren and their spouses, Chris and Cindy Morton, Jeremiah and Kristina Morton, Kellie Morton, Hilary Jo and Alex Taylor and Thomas McCorkendale; three great-grandchildren, Emeli Morton, Tessa Morton and Finlei Morton; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, Wauneta was preceded in death by one daughter, Cathy McCorkendale; one brother, Howard Summers; two sisters, Cordelia Pence and Mary Mansur; one son-in-law, John Lowman, Jr; and one sister-in-law, Madge Johnson.

Wauneta was a homemaker. She worked at Early's Grocery Store in Rockingham.  She was a member of the Hardin American Legion Post #487 Auxiliary.  She was a member of the Rockingham Church of the Brethren.  Wauneta was a great mother and grandmother.  She loved her family dearly.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either Children's Mercy Hospital or the Shirkey Hospice in Richmond.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
