William L. (Bill) Butch, 80, of Kansas City, MO, and formerly of Jacksonville, FL, died Sunday, April 22, 2012. Bill was born February 11, 1932 in Chicago, IL, to William L. Butch and Fannie McCoy.
Shortly after Bill's birth the family returned to their farm in Georgia where Bill attended schools in Woodland, Manchester, and Marietta, Georgia. He attended the University of Georgia and John Marshall Law School where he received his LL.B. degree. His lifetime career was managing property and casualty insurance companies in GA, FL, AL, and IL. Bill served in the Unites States Navy, 1952-1954.
Travel, sports car racing, genealogy, and writing were some of Bill's many interests. In retirement he authored and published three books for his family.
Bill was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Liberty, MO. Prior to his move to Kansas City, Bill had served in many leadership capacities in parishes in FL and AL. He was especially active in Kairos Prison Ministry and served on the board of AL Kairos for ten years.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jacqueline (Jackie), of the home; his son, William Gaylord Butch, (Donna), of Atlanta, GA; his daughter, Nolie Leo, (Naino), of Chattanooga, TN; his daughter, Denyse Klenner, (John), of Chattanooga, TN; a sister, Dixie Mason, of Cumming, GA; two grandchildren, Chris Claggett and Natalie Claggett; and one step-son, Jim Fisher, of Kansas City, MO. He was preceded in death by his brother, Hilton.
Bill fought a brave battle with Parkinson's disease for twenty-eight years. His strength, courage, and kindness were and inspiration to all who knew him.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 520 South 291 Highway, Liberty, MO, 64068. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Grace Episcopal Church Feeding Ministries.
