William "Bill" Lovern Logsdon, 93, of Richmond, died Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Riverbend Heights Nursing Home in Lexington.
Bill was born on June 16, 1925, in Kansas City, the son of Arch and Verna Logsdon. He was united in marriage to Susann Amelia Steely of Kansas City, in May of 1951. She preceded him in death on June 9, 2018.
Survivors include: two sons, Tim (Sarah) Logsdon of Richmond and Arch (Sheila) Logsdon of Richmond; two daughters, Debra (Forrest) Eaton of Richmond and Dottie (Rick) Johnson of Richmond; 8 grandchildren: Billy Logsdon, Tim (Heather) Logsdon, Brandy True, Luke (Michelle) Logsdon, Ashley Logsdon, Tony Johnson, Adam Logsdon and Austin Logsdon; 10 great grandchildren: Steven Logsdon, Lacey Logsdon, Blake Logsdon, Emma True, Trent Logsdon, Paige Logsdon, Avery Logsdon, Zachary Garrison, Addie Logsdon and Taylee Logsdon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters Jewel Bailey and Willa Roberts, and one grandson, Josh Garrison.
Bill grew up and was educated in the area of his birth. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, during World War II. He always talked about his time on the USS Fred T Berry Destroyer. Bill worked for 32 years for General Motors and retired in 1980. Bill started out on the line and retired as a Supervisor/Foreman. Bill moved to his farm, near Richmond, in 1963, where he enjoyed raising livestock, gardening, and all things to do with farming. He was of the Christian faith and attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church, the Morton Church, and Church of the Brethren. Besides his family and friends, he had two other great loves in his life, his dog Yeller and his dog Bear.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ray County Humane Society. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street - P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8: 00 P.M. on Monday, February 18, 2019, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery, northeast of Richmond, with United States Navy and Ray County Veterans to provide full military honors.
