W. ARTHUR SLAUGHTER

W. Arthur Slaughter, 96, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014, at Village Hospice House, John Knox Village, Lee?s Summit, MO.
Arthur was born May 10, 1918, in Richmond, MO, to William Arthur and Frances F. (Kraus) Slaughter. He graduated from Richmond High School in May 1936, graduated from Central Methodist College of Fayette, MO in June 1940, and was enrolled thereafter in several higher education institutions, including several officers' courses while in Navy service.
Arthur departed the Navy in September 1954, after 12 years of service including considerable participation in WWII in the Pacific theater and the Korean War. Along with his shipmates during his total Navy service he was authorized to wear 8 campaign ribbons and 9 battle engagement stars. He entered the Navy as a Petty Officer and departed as a Lieutenant, Senior Grade. Arthur worked in several employments during his civilian career, all in areas of financial and materials administration. They included: Farmland Industries of North Kansas City, MO; Tyler Fixture Corp. of Niles, MI, a manufacturer of commercial refrigeration; City Of Kansas City, MO Municipal Government; Whiteman Air Force Base, MO; Federal Aviation Administration Regional in Kansas City; and Internal Revenue Service.
He is survived by his daughter Lynn B. Taylor of Rootstown, OH; his niece Marcia (Thomas) Woodcock of Smyrna, TN; and his nephew James (Dana) Slaughter of Kent, CT. His sister Maxine S. Graddy of Lexington, Missouri, and his brother Eldon E. Slaughter of Greenwich, Connecticut, preceded him in death.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 8, 11:00 a.m. at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond, MO, with inurnment at Sunny Slope Cemetery, Richmond, MO. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services.
If desired, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity or institution of the individual?s choice.
