Obituary

Winona Marie Brown, 80, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024, at her home.

Winona was born on January 5, 1944, in Kansas City, the daughter of Edward Saylor and Helen Marie (Tebor) Brown.

Survivors include: two sons, Robert William Gross, Jr., and Stephen Luke Brown (Mary Vandevyvere), both of Richmond; two daughters, Gena Lorraine Shade (James Schreier) of Kansas City and Mendy Marie (Russ) Malott of Richmond; four grandchildren: Matthew Shade, Ashleigh (Rocky) Hogan, Tiffany (Andrew) Swope, Trevor (Jourdin) Malott; six great-grandchildren: Lileighan Hogan, Justin Hogan, Rocko Hogan, Collin Swope, Colt Swope, and Willow Malott; three great-nieces: Meghan Carter, Katie Brown, and Sydney Brown; nephew, Hunter Brown; and sister-in-law, Lynda Brown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, David (Tore) Shelton, great-grandson, Wade Swope, brother, Donald Edward Brown, and nephew, David Wesley Brown.

Winona was reared and educated in Richmond, graduating from Richmond High School in the class of 1962.  After high school, she became a wife and mother.  She retired from Ford Motor Company in 2007.  Winona was a member of the United Auto Workers Union #249.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Grand Worthy Matron.  Winona was also a member of the Richmond First Baptist Church.  She loved gardening, canning, and showing others how to do it, passing on her knowledge.  When she wasn't working, she loved fishing, hunting, and camping.  Her kids always said, "they were raised on a creek bank."  Winona will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Richmond First Baptist Church.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M., with services to follow at 11:00 A.M.  Interment will be held in Richmond Memory Gardens.  Please remember to share your memories of Winona with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
